New Year, New Habits
Have you ever noticed how fast time seems to fly? Here we are in a new year with many hopes, desires and goals and we are already two months in! My question for you is, how are you doing? Are you following through on your resolutions? Are you working hard to produce good habits?
Did you know that the Scripture also encourages us to make good use of our time? Jesus warns us saying that at an unknown day and hour, the Son of Man will come (c.f. Matt 24:37-44). St. Paul also tells us in his letter to the Galatians: “Therefore, while we have time, let us work good to all men.” (Galatians 6:10).
We can conclude that the best thing we can do is make good use of our time. How do we do it? Sr. Carmela of the Holy Spirit O.C.D., gives us a beautiful description of how to make good use of our time. She says, “We must give every moment its full amount of love, and make each passing moment eternal, by giving its value for eternity.” Wow! Sister Carmela is challenging us to live each moment in love. Charity is the best way to use our time well. Our growth in charity depends on the good that we have said and done in our lives. It is necessary that we perform as many acts of charity as possible in this life. At the end of our lives, in Heaven, we will see the degree of love to which our soul has reached and the degree of love which we shall love and glorify God for all eternity.
Let us allow our souls to be open to God’s grace and practice as many works of charity as possible. Let us not lose any opportunity to love God and others. Let us not lose the opportunity to speak the healing words of love, mercy, and forgiveness to one another. Our life is so short! Our love will increase dramatically and we will be completely transformed into love and to be transformed into love means to be holy.
