Infinite Love in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and The Holy Eucharist

In the Easter Season, we contemplate the Risen Jesus in all of His glory!  It is a season of joy and hope, where we witness even in creation around us a new springtime.  The Easter season also calls to mind two special devotions of hope: The Holy Eucharist and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Indeed, the Sacred Heart of Jesus shares with us the love of God. God’s infinite love for all of us!  The Eucharist is the Real Presence of Jesus Christ which means the Eucharist is the Heart of Jesus with us.  Pope Benedict XV points to this reality beautifully when he says:

"In the Eucharist, this divine Heart governs us and loves us by living and abiding with us so that we may live and abide in Him because in this Sacrament...[Jesus] offers and gives Himself to us as a victim, companion, viaticum, and the pledge of future glory."

The Eucharist strengthens our relationship with the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  Jesus' own love from His Sacred Heart radiates through those who receive Him in Holy Communion.  Thus, we are able to live out a life of great virtue, even at times heroic virtue, through receiving Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.  Jesus longs for us to abide in Him and He in us, and so through receiving Him in Holy Communion we are healed, strengthened and deeply embraced by the love in the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  h

There is a beautiful prayer that the priest prays at Mass just before receiving Holy Communion. He says, "keep me always faithful to your commandments and never let me be separated from you."  May this prayer be also our prayer; that through this Holy Eucharist we will always be close to Jesus, to His Sacred Heart, and in receiving Jesus, may we console Him for all of the sins and offences that have been committed against Him.  Jesus loves us.  May we love Him with all of our hearts!
