In recent years, we have had several invitations to come to different dioceses to be established. We have been asked to start schools, engage in catechetics and continue our apostolate of caring for the elderly. In order to teach the Catholic Faith with competence, our Sisters need to be instructed by authentic teachers, theologians and scripture scholars. Our Sisters who are being prepared to teach school and nurse the elderly additionally need the proper professional preparation to engage in their apostolates. With a number of Sisters presently enrolled in university and more vocations coming, our expenses are high.
Motherhouse
Our community was founded in the small, stone caretaker's cottage beside the Church of Our Lady Immaculate in Guelph, Ontario on August 1, 1977. The Sisters moved to Cambridge, Ontario to Our Lady's Convent beside St. Clement's Church in 1980 and then to our present location at 640 Hillview Rd. When the new wing to our retirement home was built in 1995, the Sisters moved into a small section of that wing while the previous building which had been the Sisters' Convent was knocked down to make room for the wing. Our community is quickly outgrowing this limited space.
Owing to the above facts, we have come to the conclusion that the time to build a proper Motherhouse for our community is in the near future. The basic features of our motherhouse will include first of all a proper chapel, accommodations for approximately 40 Sisters with a novitiate wing, and other proper areas of a convent such as a library, refectory, community room, laundry, etc. We are presently in the process of acquiring land for the Motherhouse.
